My Mom worked up there with the telephone company during WWII while my Dad was away. We drove through there several times in the early 50's, but I don't remember much except for seeing deer which was an oddity!

I think it was the first race at "the Rock" and John Sears was the local running in his first big time race..Curtis Turner put him in the wall inTurn 1 of the first lap! I told that story to a fellow named Yarborough from Sardis,SC who was a client of mine for a long time several years ago...
