I ate there many times during the early 60's and danced in the Dance Hall in the Basement called Bobby's Canteen at night they always had a small band that played the top hits you had to have a membership card and pay a .50cent cover charge. Great times had by the Teens from Hamlet and Rockingham

I remember Swail's Shoe Shop on E. Hamlet Ave.it was located where EZ Pawn Shop in now, in the eary50's there was a Pence Shoe Shop on Front St. and another one just East of a Baber Shop on Hamlet Ave. can't remember those names

I do know who shot Chief King, it was Mrs Skipper who also lived in Longwood Park. she ran a small Gro Store and lived in it. I was in the USAF stationed at Osan AB during the Ice Strom, but read about it in our local papers and letters from home. My youngest daughter Lisa was born Jan30,1969 and was at her Grandmothers house , no power they kept the house warm with the fireplace and warmed her baby milk there too

The best way to get to Gum Swamp Lake is get on Boyd Lake Rd and keep on going Straight until you see a Lake on the Left :roll:
