Re: Purity Cafe ad 1936
Freddie, This man took a chance and would sell you beer after hours. He would bag it and give it to you when you left. There was a posting on here a few months ago and Malcolm M. knew the man's name and I think he was greek in terms of his ethnicity and probably in his mid to late 70's. ( This was i...

Re: graduated from HHS X 2 & attended 3 jr-sr.
Malcolm is right. I was surprised when my father told me that high school only had 11 grades when he attended. He would have graduated in 1923 or '24. Figured it would be an older person to know the answer.

Re: Coach Mike Caskey
Last February when I had a knee replacement, a man delivered a cpm machine to my house to assist in restoring extension and flexion. In talking with him, I mentioned that I was a native of Hamlet and he asked if I knew Coach Caskey and then told me that Coach was his father. I saved the agreement th...

Malcolm, I worked for Bruce Sellers, Class of '56 or rather in his place during 1956 when all of Luther's help ( most were from the class of'56 ) had taken off for the beach following the Jr-Sr @ HHS. This was in the location before they moved. I believe that the new location opened during 1962. Jim...

Pink elephant in Mary Love Cemetary
I do not know the answer to this but thought i would post this question to help keep this section alive. Perhaps someone does.
Why did this person have an elephant carved from pink granite on his grave? I can't remember his name but am fairly sure it was a man.

I think it was Louie the Greek who would sell beer after 11:45pm at the Purity. He would bag it for you on the sly and give it to you when you were ready to leave.
