Re: Hamlet Ice Storm 1969

Daddy was in Raleigh in the Senate. Mom took great care of Virginia and me. We ate high on the hog using a
Hibachi grill...cleaning out the freezer of steaks, etc. Mama taught us how to play penny poker. We had a great time.

I think David needs to create a "like" button! Hint, hint!! Another interesting tidbit Jody. Thanks for sharing. Marcus' daughter is in England for the second time studying at Kent. She so loves British history and reels off all the monarchy and successors. I told her she needed to read al...

Great Picture!!!!
I think those ceilings are awfully high for the Country Club. Also the club was built in the late 50's as I recall and the floors in the pictures look worn.
Wonder if it could be the Terminal Hotel??

The Nurses Home does look like it needed a coat of paint.
I remember Western Auto being next door. I would go there
looking at bicycles and roller skates! I love the "caps or urns" on the top
of that building.

We used to go out there as well. I do believe it was out Henderson Street. Henderson runs parallel with Rice. It is the street that is the corner of Wilson Harrington Funeral Home. You probably could get to it from Rice Street as well. We didn't like walking our bikes up the hill at the end of Rice.

Ms. Camlin, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Killian and ?

I can see that fake box of chocolates daddy had sitting on that counter. He would watch as people tried to sneak one...they were wooden and glued to the bottom of the box....He got such a kick out of that!!!! Just another one of his practical jokes!

How wonderful!!!! My grandmother and dad would be so proud to see this. I thinks it's great you still get together. I hope the new graduates from RCC will value the education and experience and do the same. Those were some "good ol days!!". Wonder how many of you babysat Virginia and me!??...

Barney Martin, editor of Hamlet New Messenger, owned it before Dr. Williamson I believe. Mr. Martin was the one who left "Crowded Sky" up for so long on the Marque. I believe it closed in the mid 70's as well. I don't remember seeing Jaws in Hamlet. I saw it in Southern Pines, so it may ha...

Alan, I believe that old (Model A?) was Monk Thomas' car.
It is now parked in the Tornado Building at the end of Main Street.
Great memories of him driving it around Hamlet and in the
Christmas parade.

It became a campaign message for Barney Martin when he ran for Sheriff. When he lost to Raymond Goodman, "Crowded Sky" went back up late that night! (one of my dad's favorite stories). Barney Martin was a funny man!
