Lynn, I was in South Korea when they had the Ice Storm in about 6' of snow' so I missed it too, but read all about it in the Daily Journal and letters from home

The reason I said Air Mail Day is because down at Sunset Beach there is a Mail box on a flag pole about 50 feet in the air with Air Mail written on it, and Wayne that picture of City Lake looks like the plane is over the ole Homeplace on Bus74

[The Rockingham RR did saw them many times when we lived on School St in E. Rockingham they came right by our house, but they didn't stop in Hamlet just passed by 2 miles south

And there were 2 that ran south of Hamlet about 2 miles The Rockingham Railroad
it came across the SAL MAIN Line. then across Freeman Mill Rd, Gin Mill Rd. on by Central Carolina Gas Co. then ran beside SAL tracks on 381 to Gibson and other points south

South of the Blue Store were 2 building that have long been gone since I moved to Hamlet in the early'50's Brown's Poolroom ran by Tyree's Dad and an Old Theater, that was closed

My Dad , Dan Smith got his Flat Top at the City Barber Shop once a week I remember he and a barber talking about WWII, and Gen. Patton, and the barber said he still had the Pray Card that Patton gave each troop under his command

Fred Case was the man who took Red Ram to all the home games, Kept him at his house in Longwood Park every Friday Red Ram would get a good bath, a new coat of Red paint on his horns and hoof's he would let me do the painting since he had very poor vision

Fred Case lived next door to us on the north side, and one day he asked me to ride to town with him on the Hamlet-Rockingham Bus Line to cut his Hedges, We departed the Bus downtown on Hamlet Ave me with clippers in tow to Front St. He did the cutting and I picked up the clipping and threw them next...
