Thomas Ralph Gulledge, 87, of Rockingham passed away on May 17 , 2017 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1930 in Anson County, a son of the late Henry Thomas Gulledge and Flora Bell Brock Gulledge. Ralph graduated from Deep Creek High School near Wadesboro and as an older adult, he earned an Associate Degree from Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst. Ralph honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict, where he lost an eye in battle and received a Purple Heart for his sacrifice. He worked many years at West Knitting Mill in Anson County. After moving to Rockingham, he was employed for many years at Burlington Industries in Cordova. In later years, he worked for the Hamlet Post Office as a Rural Carrier, retiring from that position. During this time he and Ann also served as proprietor and manager of Everett’s Mill Corporation at Everett’s Lake in Rockingham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Virginia Caudle Gulledge Jones and his second wife Elizabeth Ann Gulledge. siblings, Howard Gulledge , Sara Gribben and Joyce Hudson.
Surviving are his children, Laura Brooks and Mike Jones (Ruth) of Tallahassee FL, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Ann Damen and Jeanette Coble, both of Rockingham, Fran Tetlak (Ed) of Apex, NC, Patricia Adams (William)of Chesterfield, SC, Esta Berry (Jimmy) of Pinehurst, NC, numerous nieces and nephews in the Rockingham area, and his special niece and caregiver Tammy Hudson.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
