Luke Kimbrell Johnson, Jr., age 97 of Laurinburg passed away at his home on Thursday, November 02, 2017.
Luke, a son of the late Luke Kimbrell Johnson, Sr., and Margaret McLaughlin Johnson was born November 9, 1919 in Decatur, Georgia. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in Intelligence with the United States Army. He attended Clemson University and retired after 37 years of service from Southern Bell as a supervisor over the Wilmington District. Luke was a faithful, active member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and loved caring for his animals. He will always be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McLean Johnson, his children, Luke K. Johnson, III and Mary Kay Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Brenda Alexander Johnson of their home in Laurinburg; her children, Kevin Cooper and wife Daphne of Greenville, SC, Lisa Ezzelle and husband Alan of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Daniel Ezzelle and wife Maddie, Alexander Ezzelle and a host of loving friends.
The family will have a time of visitation on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in New Hope Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Michael Malpass. A private burial will be at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given in his memory to New Hope Baptist Church, 11480 Hasty Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
