Deaver With Robin Roberts, star pitcher of the Philadelphia
Phillies.
My older brother Wayne and myself started selling newspapers at
a young age. We would stand at the gate of Aleo Mill when they
changed shifts at 10: p.m. and sell a lot of papers. We also had
newspaper routes as we got older. We sold the East Rockingham
News, The News Messenger, The Richmond County Journal, The
Grit, The Baltimore American , The Charlotte News and the
Charlotte Observer over the years as a boy. I can also remember
pulling my wagon around the Mill Hill and at the Mill Gate selling
Candy and Newspapers. In the summer we would be at the Mill at
2:p.m. also, in those days Aleo Changed Shifts at 6:a.m., 2:p.m.,
and 10:p.m.
