WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BOYD'S LAKE?

I was surfing around today and zoomed-in on 2nd Street with Google maps to see the long leaf pines Jerry Pait said were planted by the Hamlet Garden Club to hide his grandfather's house from view (1957 City Lake Project).

I also noticed that Boyd's Lake is now a lake in name only, having deteriorated to just a swampy area. I remember that back in the fifties there were a couple of buildings to support public swimming and also a dam just a little to the east. The dam is no longer there and a drain pipe can be seen poking through the brush. So what happened to Boyd's Lake? Did the enterprise ceased to be when the old folks died off, the heirs wanting nothing to do with it?

From what I hear the dam dam busted and never got repaired. I think it's popularity had waned quite a bit before that happened though.
