1965 Beauty Salon's
Re: 1965 Beauty Salon's
I think I remember going to Willie's Beauty Shop a time or two. What's the difference in a shop, a shoppe, or a salon??

Re: 1965 Beauty Salon's
There is at least one shoppe I know that doesn't appear on this list. Back in the early 1970s, and continuing into the early 2000s, my mom and aunt made weekly visits to a shoppe they simply identified at "Bitsie's". My sister from Florence, S.C. regularly drove up to have her hair styled there also, so I guess Bitsie's must have been a good place to visit.
But maybe the reason Bitsie's shoppe doesn't appear on this list is because she opened her shoppe years after this ad was published. Or maybe my mom and my aunt said "Bisby"s", because you gotta know that southern accents are confusing, even to family members.

I think my mother went to a Bitsy's, too.
Sigmore, I think the difference between a shop, shoppe and a salon is similar to the difference between a burger and beer joint and a burger and beer joint "operated in a high class manner."

I talked with my sister in Florence earlier tonight and she said the shop my mom and she went to was run by a lady named Bipsy Inman. She said it was west of Hamlet, out McDonald or Hylan Ave. And my wife told me she drove my mom and aunt a couple of times to the shop in the early 1970s and it was located in the basement of Bipsy's home.

Same place I was talking about, although now I can't remember if it was my mother or my grandmother that I used to take to Bipsy.
