Where was it and who blew it and for what reason

It was located on top of Hamlet City Hall, The fire dept. would blow it to alert the firemen of a fire or rescue call. 1 - 4 blows indicated what section of town the fire was located in and 5 blows was a rescue call. The railroad diamond at the passenger is how the town was divided into locations.

You are so right Wayne, now the siren is on top of the water tank and they only blow it once a week, on Sat. at noon I can also remember that the firemen only got $2.00 per call

Seems like they also blew it at noon on Wednesday and most of the town shut the doors and took the afternoon off.

I remember the siren at noon on Saturdays and people taking Wednesday afternoon off. I think a lot of people worked half a day Saturday then, too.

Yepper, that's when Hamlet was like Mayberry. Those were some good times.
