We used to climb it all the time and take our walkie talkies up there to keep tabs on the town. CB radios were the craze back then. My call name was "Spud" and my call sign was KQK-2254. After the truckers got a hold of them the call signs and licenses went out the window. I remember saving my money so I could go to Bill Built Auto Parts and buy me new channel crystals to keep up with Van Billingsley and Tommy Davenport. Then the Turner +2 microphones came out and I had to save and have one of them bad boys.
my mother ( Sue Clemmer Andrews) claims to have climbed it when she was in high school with Prentice Taylor and four other schoolmates. Seems someone call the police on them. But as the police rode around the triangle with a soptlight, they all walked around on the opposite side of the tank. I never climed it myself........I swear !!
