"Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Monday, May 14, 2018, Jesus called his humble servant, Lloyd Dean Simmons, to his heavenly home.

Lloyd, the son of the late Taft Jerome and Cladie Lear Simmons, was born in Richmond County on February 5, 1939. Lloyd spent many years working with Klopman Mill, Clark Manufacturing, and Marley Engineered Products. He retired from Marley Engineered Products in 2001. A kind and gentle man who loved his Lord, his church, and his family, was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His sense of humor was always right on time and brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him. A faithful member of Pine Grove Baptist church for over 60 years, he served our Lord as deacon, choir member and was church treasurer for over 40 years. Always thinking of others with a kind word and a helping hand.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ray and Stanford. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Brigman Simmons; children: Kim Boone (Michael), Lisa Cline, Mike Simmons (Rhonda), Susan Leonard (David); grandchildren: Christy, Matt, Drew, Nick, Heather, Bridgett, Blair, Rachel, John; great-grandchildren: Dakota, Dylan, Kylee, Sailor, Carlie and Kennedy. He is also survived by his sisters, Margie Parker (Carl) and Jean Burgess; brothers: Jim Simmons (Carolyn) and Jerry Simmons (Sandra) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; all of whom loved him very much and he loved them.

A service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be conducted 3:30 pm Thursday, May 17th at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Carroll Anthony and Rev. Robby Caudle officiating. Interment will follow the service at Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:00 to 3:15 pm and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 275 Airport Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379 or Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N., Rockingham, NC 28379. When you think of Lloyd, share a kind word or tell a funny story to brighten someone's day in his memory.
