TONY EVANS
Tony Evans was born November 30 ,1936, in Elkin, NC to John and Sue Evans. When he was young, the family moved to Hamlet, NC where Tony started playing golf at the age of 9. He fell in love with the game and enjoyed a lifelong career in the sport. While attending Hamlet High School, he met the love of his life, Ann Cato. They were married in Hawaii while Tony was stationed there with the US Army. After his service, Tony and Ann lived in Columbia, SC, where they were blessed by the births of two daughters, Pam and Kitty. The family moved to Fayetteville, NC when the girls were young and enjoyed a life filled with many wonderful friends, most of whom they met at Highland Presbyterian Church and Highland Country Club where Tony was the Head Golf Professional. During their time in Fayetteville, they were again blessed by the birth of a son, Tony. After leaving Fayetteville in 1981, Tony continued to work in the golf profession until his retirement.
Tony died peacefully at home in Sandy Springs, GA on June 25, from congestive heart failure, surrounded by his wife, daughter and son-in-law.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest child, Pamela Evans Thornton. Tony is survived by his sister, Jane Mullis, brother, Mickey Evans, wife, Ann, son-in-law, David Thornton, daughter Kathryn Turner and her husband, Warren and son, James Anthony Evans. Tony had four grandchildren, Kathryn Thornton, Ben Thornton, Allison Turner and Claire Turner, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the American Heart Association, Hospice Foundation of America or The First Tee.

Services were conducted on June 30 at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, where Warren Turner would deliver his father-in-law’s befitting eulogy.
