1954 is the first vivid memory I have in my life, and a color memory at that; the night Hurricane Hazel came through, just two months prior to this letter.
Those Crooke boys lived just down the street

School let out right after lunch the day of Hurrican Hazel. I remember mother picking us up in the '48 Chev. Fleetline. The windshield wipers could not go fast enough....from our kitchen window, we could see your house. Minus a few pinetree limbs and a few dogwood branches, the TV antenna bent over on top of the roof...must have snapped the guide wires.
