Thanks David, cool stuff. Wonder what the tax rate was back then. Looks like it was pretty reasonable. Somebody that can do goezintas can comeback with an answer hopefully.

Sigmore, those of us whose computers have a calculator in the "all programs" list (PCs, don't know about Apple) can figure out the sales tax was 3 percent. Converted to English, that's 3 cents tax on every $1 in purchase price.

This reminds me of a story Catherine Monk told me back around 1975, she said a group of her friends and herself went on a trip to New York City and one day while shopping one of her friends saw a table that she liked and the clerk told her he would ship it home. Catherine said after they got home, it was only a day or two later her friends table was delivered and that as she was opening the package, the first thing she saw, was William Fetner, Inc., Hamlet, N.C. on the bottom of the table.

I need to go digging through some of the things my Mom had which included the hospital bill from Hamlet Hospital for the both of us in 1945. The entire bill for 11 days(try that now) was $55.

I remember seeing a similar-sized bill from Hamlet Hospital from when I was born in 1951 showing how they paid it off in monthly installments.

I'm curious Jody, how much did you cost?? I'll be willing to bet that cutie-puss cost a lot more than you did. No offense meant!!

I don't remember the exact amount, but it was something along the lines of what Wayne wrote about, less than $100. I think my parents finished the payments about the time Lee came along two years later.
